Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people in the United States, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Families, friends, and other caring persons can and do play a critical role in preventing youth suicide.
Learn about important trends and which groups within the youth demographic are at most risk. Understand the root causes of youth suicide and what signs of risk parents and concerned others should be looking for in a young person’s behavior or language. Discuss effective strategies you can use to reduce the potential for suicide including, but not limited to, how to listen; when (and when not) to talk, and how to build resilience in youth.
